Buddy Streeper wins IPSSSDR third time in a row ... - - County 10

(Evanston, Wyo.) ? Blayne ?Bud? Streeper from Fort Nelson, ?British Columbia, is the winner of the 2012 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog ?Race (IPSSSDR) with an overall time of 19:52.42. This is the fourth first-place ?IPSSSDR win for Streeper, who also won the race in 2004, 2010 and 2011. Streeper won the seventh stage of the race today by just 46 seconds over Aaron Peck. Both mushers averaged 12.6 mph in the final stage.

Peck, from Grand Prairie, Alberta, took second in Friday?s stage and in the 2012 overall race with a cumulative time of 20:09.27. A third place finisher in last year?s IPSSSDR, Peck moved up one spot.

John Stewart of Scotland and Brent Beck of Yellowknife, Northwest Territory, Canada, tied for third in Friday?s stage with identifal times of 3:19:09. But Stewart had a better overall time through seven stages to place third with a final time of 20:23.40. Stewart also raced in the IPSSSDR in 2010 and placed 9th. Beck was the race?s fourth place overall finisher.

Lander?s home town favorite IPSSSDR musher, Jerry Bath, who entered the final day with a one minute lead in fourth place, had his slowest time of the week and came in 11th in today?s stage. Bath?s time Friday was 3:41:07. He slipped three places from Thursday but finished seventh overall by completing the seven stages in 21:40:29. His final time was just four seconds over his fifth place finish time of 21:40:25 last year. Bath also finished seventh in 2010.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, the final day of race activities, Lyman hosts a Flapjack Frenzy breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. at the community?s Heritage Barn before the mushers leave for Park City. ?The 2012 IPSSSDR concludes in Park City at Quinn?s Junction Sports Complex with a Meet the Mushers event from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a Junior Mushers Race at noon. ?Select students, aged 9 to 13, from schools ?throughout Wyoming and Utah volunteered in their communities to earn the right to ?compete in the kids? race. ?At 6 p.m. the IPSSSDR Awards Banquet takes place at the Prospector, 2175 Sidewinder Drive in Park City.
